Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim Hussein, the Sudanese Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, hosted Mohamed El-Amin Soueifi, Director of the Office of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, at the Sudanese Embassy today. He was accompanied by Mohamed Belaiche, the AU Representative to Sudan.
During the meeting, Mr. Soueifi conveyed the solidarity of AU Chairperson Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssef with the people and government of Sudan amid the ongoing conflict with the Rapid Support Forces militia.
Ambassador Al-Zein provided a detailed briefing on the current situation in Sudan and discussed the expected role of the African Union in supporting the country. He emphasized that Sudan’s suspension from the AU and the lack of serious engagement have emboldened those opposing stability, exacerbating tensions.
The Ambassador highlighted that peace can best be achieved if the Rapid Support Forces implement the Jeddah Agreement by withdrawing from civilian areas. He expressed gratitude to the African Union Commission for its solidarity, especially regarding recent rebel violations in El Fasher, Kalogi, Kadugli, and other regions.
