Ethiomonitor – Addis Ababa

March 6 2026

the General Command of the Sudanese Armed Forces announced the successful liberation of the city of Bara in North Kordofan State after intense confrontations with the Rapid Support Militia (Janjaweed).

In an official statement, the Armed Forces’ spokesperson articulated that this operation is part of the ongoing “War of Dignity,” aimed at reclaiming control over Sudanese cities and eradicating the presence of the terrorist Rapid Support Militia.

The statement detailed that the Sudanese Armed Forces, supported by allied forces, engaged in what were characterized as valiant battles, compelling militia members to retreat after incurring significant losses in personnel and equipment, including abandoned vehicles and military hardware.

The recapture of Bara marks an important milestone in the continuing military operations in Kordofan, with a firm commitment to eliminate the militia’s presence throughout Sudan.
