IGAD Welcomes Sudan’s Return to Full Participation

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has expressed its approval of Sudan’s decision to resume full participation in the organization’s activities. This move is viewed as a significant development that bolsters collective efforts in regional action.
Workneh Gebeyehu, IGAD’s Executive Secretary, stated that Sudan’s return underscores its commitment to regional solidarity and cooperative initiatives aimed at fostering peace, stability, and collaboration in the Horn of Africa. He emphasized that, as a founding member of IGAD, Sudan plays a crucial role in reinforcing the organization’s unity and enhancing its ability to tackle shared regional challenges and priorities.
Gebeyehu also extended his gratitude to Ismail Omar Guelleh, President of Djibouti and IGAD Chair, recognizing his leadership and efforts in facilitating this process. His commitment to promoting dialogue and consensus among member states has strengthened regional cohesion.
The IGAD Secretariat reiterated its readiness to collaborate closely with the Sudanese government to support endeavors toward peaceful resolutions of current challenges, aiming to contribute to the consolidation of security, stability, and sustainable development in both Sudan and the broader region.
