In a significant move for the Eritrean Afar community, delegations representing the Eritrean Afar Opposition Forces convened yesterday during the inaugural session of the “HornVision 1st” Conference to address pressing developments affecting the region. Following in-depth discussions, the organizations released a unified declaration aimed at both the Afar populace and the broader regional audience.
The declaration reaffirms the Eritrean Afar’s steadfast commitment to the right to self-determination, a political and legal right enshrined in international laws and regional charters. This right is recognized as the ultimate expression of the people’s will concerning their political future.
In their statement, the organizations underscored the urgent need for a just democratic governance structure that promotes freedom, equality, and human dignity. Their mission is to terminate decades of marginalization and tyranny that the Eritrean Afar have faced.
Identifying the People’s Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ) and its dictatorial regime as the common adversary, the organizations highlighted the PFDJ’s role as a significant threat not just to the Eritrean people but as a source of instability across the Horn of Africa. The regime’s actions are seen as obstructing opportunities for peace and development in the region.
The Eritrean Afar Opposition Forces declared that all legitimate means of resistance against the oppressive regime are warranted. They emphasized that the right to resist tyranny, recognized by international law, may encompass armed struggle as a valid option to protect the rights of the Eritrean Afar and pave the way for genuine democratic governance that ensures security and a brighter future.
United in their cause, the Eritrean Afar Opposition Forces called for solidarity both within the Afar community and across the region, advocating for victory in their quest for justice for the Red Sea Afar in Eritrea.
