The Sudan Doctors Network has reported alarming findings regarding the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher, North Darfur, indicating that hundreds of bodies have been collected from streets and residential areas. According to the network, some of these bodies have been buried in mass graves, while others have been burned, seemingly to conceal evidence of potential violations against civilians.
Satellite imagery analyzed by the Humanitarian Research Lab at the Yale School of Public Health supports these claims, revealing trenches indicative of mass graves that have been subsequently covered. Additional images show fires and what appear to be human remains near hospitals and other key locations in El Fasher. The lab noted that these practices contravene local Islamic burial traditions, complicating future victim identification and accountability efforts.
Local sources have characterized the systematic burning and concealment of bodies as indicative of a “major humanitarian crisis” in the region, although they have refrained from providing definitive legal conclusions about the nature of the alleged violations.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has confirmed receiving “multiple, alarming reports” of human rights violations allegedly committed by the RSF, including summary executions and other serious abuses. The OHCHR underscored the necessity of documenting these incidents and ensuring accountability for perpetrators in accordance with international standards.
