The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) has announced that, effective immediately, all passengers traveling to Hargeisa must possess a valid Somali e-visa.
This new requirement is being enforced by airlines, including Flydubai and Ethiopian Airlines, which have been instructed to comply with the regulation. Non-compliance may result in legal repercussions for both passengers and airlines.
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by Somali authorities to enhance the regulation of air travel and bolster border security. By mandating e-visas, the SCAA aims to streamline entry procedures and ensure better tracking of travelers entering the region.
In a related development, Somaliland’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued directives requiring international airlines to secure prior authorization from regional aviation authorities before landing at airports in Somaliland. Officials have emphasized that this requirement is crucial for ensuring regulatory oversight and facilitating the safe management of international flights.
These updated aviation protocols reflect the commitment of both Somalia and Somaliland to enhance air travel security and operational efficiency, marking a significant step forward in the regulation of the aviation sector in the region.
