In a significant address to the Moroccan people, King Mohammed VI celebrated the recent United Nations Security Council resolution affirming the Moroccan identity of Western Sahara. The King articulated a vision for a new chapter in Morocco’s history, emphasizing the end of a prolonged conflict through a consensual solution grounded in the autonomy initiative.
Reflecting on the sacrifices made over the past fifty years, the King expressed pride that this pivotal moment coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Green March and the 70th anniversary of Morocco’s independence. He conveyed satisfaction with the resolution’s content, marking it as a critical juncture in the nation’s trajectory.
King Mohammed VI underscored the importance of national unity, asserting, “The time has come for a unified Morocco, from Tangier to Lagouira, whose rights and historical borders no one will dare to infringe upon.” He noted that recent decisions by major economic powers—including the United States, France, Britain, Russia, Spain, and the European Union—have bolstered recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces, positioning them as potential centers of development and stability in the Sahel and Sahara regions.
In line with the UN resolution, the King announced plans to refine and present the autonomy initiative to the United Nations as the sole foundation for negotiations. He expressed gratitude to nations that have supported Morocco’s stance, particularly acknowledging the contributions of the United States under President Donald Trump, as well as the support from allies in Britain, Spain, and France.
While recognizing positive developments regarding territorial integrity, King Mohammed VI emphasized Morocco’s commitment to a solution that respects the dignity of all parties involved. He urged those in the Tindouf camps to take this historic opportunity for reunification and to engage in local governance under the framework of a unified Morocco.
Concluding his message, the King reaffirmed his role as a guarantor of rights and freedoms for all Moroccans, stressing equality among citizens regardless of their circumstances. He echoed President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s call for sincere dialogue between Morocco and Algeria to foster new relations based on trust and cooperation, reaffirming Morocco’s dedication to revitalizing the Maghreb Union for mutual benefit among its member states
