President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea departed for Cairo on Wednesday morning, embarking on a five-day working visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt at the invitation of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
The trip, announced in a statement from Eritrea’s Ministry of Information, seeks to bolster bilateral ties and facilitate consultations on regional and international matters of mutual interest.
This visit occurs against a backdrop of escalating tensions between Eritrea and neighboring Ethiopia, fueled by recent political and security challenges in the Horn of Africa. Observers anticipate that talks in Cairo will address these dynamics alongside broader regional concerns.
In addition to high-level discussions, President Isaias and his delegation are slated to attend the inauguration of Egypt’s Grand Egyptian Museum on November 1.
Accompanying the president are Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and several senior officials.
