The Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, recently hosted the 5th Pakistan-Africa Trade Development Conference, accompanied by a trade fair that attracted over 110 businessmen and officials from Pakistan and various African nations.
This event underscored Ethiopia’s position as a promising investment destination and a strategic gateway to the African continent, particularly in light of ongoing economic reforms and a progressively improving business environment.
Pakistani Minister of Commerce, Jan Kamal Khan, highlighted Africa’s significance as a key development partner within his country’s “Pivot to Africa” policy, initiated in 2017.
He reported that trade between Pakistan and African countries reached $4.8 billion during the 2024–2025 periods, with substantial opportunities for growth in sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, and pharmaceuticals.
Ethiopian Minister of Transport and Logistics, Alemu Seme, for his part noted that Ethiopia has emerged as a burgeoning regional hub for trade and investment, driven by major national projects including the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the Ogaden Gas Project, green industrial zones, and Ethiopian Airlines’ extensive network connecting over 130 international destinations.
During the exhibition, ministers and senior officials from both Ethiopia and Pakistan toured the pavilions of participating companies, engaging with detailed presentations on products and services across various fields, including manufacturing, agriculture, energy, logistics, and technology. Both parties emphasized the crucial role of such platforms in fostering direct communication between entrepreneurs and expanding trade and investment cooperation, not only between the two countries but across the African continent as a whole.
