The 95th National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was celebrated in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, in the presence of diplomats, business leaders, and members of the Saudi community.
The event underscored the deep-rooted socioeconomic and political ties between the two nations.
In his address, Charge d’Affaires Abdullah Almugebil conveyed the pride Saudi Arabia feels regarding its partnership with Ethiopia.
, “The socioeconomic and political relations between Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia are deep and rooted in history.” Almugebil said, noting that Saudi Arabia is not only one of Ethiopia’s key trading partners but also the leading buyer of Ethiopian products for the fiscal year 2024/2025.
Almugebil announced plans for upcoming visits by trade and economic delegations aimed at bolstering investment cooperation.
He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to continuing its partnership with Ethiopia across various sectors.
The Political Consultations Committee, he added, serves as an essential platform for ongoing dialogue and coordination between the two countries.
Dewano Kedir, Director-General for Middle East, Asia, and Pacific Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, echoed these sentiments.
He congratulated the people and government of Saudi Arabia, highlighting the strong and enduring bond between the two nations.
Kedir pointed out that the relationship dates back over a millennium, tracing its roots to the arrival of followers of Prophet Mohammed in Ethiopia.
Kedir emphasized that
“Saudi Arabia ranks among Ethiopia’s top trading partners” he said, underscoring the robust collaboration in economic and political domains. He revealed that over 200 Saudi companies have established operations in Ethiopia, while more than one million Ethiopians reside in Saudi Arabia, contributing actively to various socioeconomic activities.
These developments illustrate the close ties between Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia, with Kedir expressing Ethiopia’s commitment to elevating their relationship to new heights.
The diplomatic relations between the two nations date back to 1948, marking a long history of cooperation and friendship.
