The Central Council of the Red Sea Afar Democratic Organization (RSADO) has released a statement asserting that the Eritrean regime is responsible for the failure of all agreements made with the Ethiopian federal government since 2018.
This announcement followed their regular meeting, which took place from January 25 to 27, 2026, coinciding with the 27th anniversary of the organization’s founding. The meeting aimed to monitor political, military, and security developments in Eritrea and assess the situation of the Red Sea Afar people within Eritrea, as well as the conditions of refugees in the Afar region of Ethiopia.

The RSADO accused the Eritrean regime of intransigence, continued repression, and obstructing peace efforts, leading to a situation where Eritrea functions as a closed state, devoid of essential elements of national life. The organization highlighted the strategic threats posed by the regime’s projects targeting the Afar presence through policies of ethnic cleansing, forced displacement, and land and sea confiscation. Such actions have been deemed grave crimes against the Red Sea Afar people.

Notably, the Council commended the organization’s submission of a comprehensive 120-page legally documented complaint to the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, which has been officially accepted and referred to the Eritrean regime. This development was viewed as a significant political and legal victory in the ongoing struggle against the dictatorial regime, prompting the Council to call upon the international and regional communities to support this initiative.

The statement further indicated that the organization has made notable progress in rebuilding its military capabilities and preparing its fighters for upcoming challenges. The Council encouraged the youth of the Red Sea Afar region to actively participate in training camps to defend their land and historical rights, including the constitutionally recognized right to self-determination and secession.

In a final appeal, the Council urged neighboring nations and the international community to recognize the risks posed by the continued rule of v It called for deterrent measures against the regime to prevent further destabilization.

The Council reaffirmed its gratitude for the Afar community’s critical role in supporting their struggle and emphasized that unity and continuous sacrifice are essential to achieving freedom and justice for the Red Sea Afar people.
