Morocco is making significant strides in both its football infrastructure and security capabilities as it prepares to host key international events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
In a testament to its leadership in continental security, Morocco has inaugurated the African Police Cooperation Center (CCPA) in Salé, the first of its kind in Africa. This facility is designed to coordinate security efforts among African police forces and aligns seamlessly with Morocco’s role as the host for AFCON 2025, scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. Located in a striking architectural landmark overlooking the Bouregreg River, the CCPA will serve as a crucial element of the security framework for the tournament. While initially activated for AFCON, Moroccan authorities have stated that it will remain a permanent platform to support future major international events, including the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
As preparations continue, Morocco faces heavy rainfall that could impact the AFCON matches. To address this issue, the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat has installed an advanced water drainage system known as SubAir. This technology has proven effective in managing water levels and maintaining pitch quality even amid extreme weather conditions. During the competition’s first week, despite unprecedented rainfall that at times resulted in flooding, the SubAir system minimized disruption, ensuring a quality experience for fans and players alike, as exemplified by the opening match between Morocco and the Comoros.
Beyond infrastructure and security, Morocco is also focused on bolstering its reputation as a football powerhouse. The Kingdom is implementing a long-term strategy aimed at modernizing its football ecosystem, fueled by significant investments and a commitment to developing talent. This approach has led to remarkable achievements, including a historic performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and numerous continental and international titles across various age levels.
With nearly two decades dedicated to enhancing the national football landscape, Morocco is successfully attracting talent from its diaspora, further enriching its competitive pool. This comprehensive strategy positions Morocco for increased prominence in international football, paving the way for a successful co-hosting of the FIFA World Cup in 2030 alongside Spain and Portugal.
As Morocco ramps up its efforts in security, technology, and football development, it demonstrates its commitment to not only hosting world-class events but also establishing a sustainable framework for future success on and off the field.
