African Union Condemns Attacks on Civilians in South Kordofan, Sudan

Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, has strongly condemned the recent attacks in Kalogi, South Kordofan, where reports indicate that over 100 civilians, including women and children, were killed. He highlighted that the targeting of children, educators, and medical personnel constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian and human rights law.
Youssouf expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence, including aerial bombardments and assaults on essential infrastructure such as hospitals and schools. He called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and the protection of vulnerable populations, urging for unhindered humanitarian access to affected communities.
The Chairperson emphasized the need for accountability and independent investigations into these atrocities, reaffirming the African Union’s commitment to supporting the people of Sudan and fostering a return to peace and stability through regional and international collaboration.
