Green Scene Energy Plc has introduced the “Tolo,” a locally manufactured solar-powered cooking stove designed to enhance access to clean cooking solutions in rural and off-grid areas. The single-burner model is priced at 7,403 birr, while the double-burner version costs 13,400 birr, making them 25-30% more affordable than similar infrared stoves.
The Tolo stove utilizes solar energy through Direct Current Charging (DCC) and can be used on-grid or off-grid. The company will distribute the stove via a pay-as-you-go model, collaborating with microfinance institutions and local retail networks.
“Tolo is designed for households without electricity and those seeking cleaner alternatives to biomass and charcoal cooking,” stated Rekike Bekele, CEO of Green Scene Energy.
Manufactured in Addis Ababa’s Kotebe neighborhood, the facility has a daily production capacity exceeding 200 units. Since its founding in 2016, Green Scene Energy has provided over 9,000 solar products and is now expanding into solar-powered appliances.
This launch coincides with rising electricity tariffs and aims to support Ethiopia’s Clean Cooking Programme (2035) and National Carbon Market Strategy (2025–2035), which seek to enhance modern cooking access and reduce household carbon emissions
